John Peralta intricately suspends individual components of iconic gadgets, such as Rollieflex cameras and Singer sewing machines, on strands of monofilament. The Austin-based artist transforms these historic technologies into detailed, three-dimensional exploded diagrams using their actual parts.
Peralta’s passion for understanding how things work stems from childhood memories of collecting broken radios and tape decks with his brother. They would disassemble them to explore their inner workings. Inspired by the mathematical precision of Dutch artist M.C. Escher, Peralta transitioned from pencil and charcoal drawings to making art his full-time career.
